Diabetes:  A Life Journey with Type 2 | A Woman’s Story

Really, the first time a Doctor said this word to me… “Diabetes,” actually it was pre-diabetes. I was shocked how it sounded. It sounded like Die a betes. Then followed a description that sounded like a life of pain, body dysfunctioning pain, suffering and just a sentence to horror.

Doctor’s say, “YOU CANNOT REVERSE DIABETES.” Just do what you can; eventually take prescriptions with reactions are worse than what you have. Submit to the fact you will get worse and worse, to the point of gout in legs, then amputations, kid dialyses, neuropathy, shooting pains, blindness and more. Just a miserable life sentence.

I made my mind up that I would not submit to this. Really, who in their right mind will submit to this terrible sentence for the rest of their life?  Perhaps I am being over dramatic. I think not!!! When you research the billions of dollars made, tested, compiled from Diabetic patients, just to keep money machine rolling on the backs of Diabetics wanting to live better!! Diabetes was the 7th leading cause of death, and now with Covid it is the 8th. Now diabetes is at epidemic proportions in our country.

Children also are obese, diabetic, and falling into this non-healing system.

LETS LOOK AT SOME OF THE FACTS

STATISTICS FROM THE CDC, MORE INFO FROM LINK BELOW

Among the US population overall, crude estimates for 2018 were:

  • 34.2 million people of all ages—or 10.5% of the US population—had diabetes.
  • 34.1 million adults aged 18 years or older—or 13.0% of all US adults—had diabetes (Table 1a; Table 1b).
  • 7.3 million adults aged 18 years or older who met laboratory criteria for diabetes were not aware of or did not report having diabetes (undiagnosed diabetes, Table 1b). This number represents 2.8% of all US adults (Table 1a) and 21.4% of all US adults with diabetes.
  • The percentage of adults with diabetes increased with age, reaching 26.8% among those aged 65 years or older (Table 1a).

Costs

  • The total direct and indirect estimated costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2017 was $327 billion.
  • Total direct estimated costs of diagnosed diabetes increased from $188 billion in 2012 to $237 billion in 2017 (2017 dollars); total indirect costs increased from $73 billion to $90 billion in the same period (2017 dollars).
  • Between 2012 and 2017, excess medical costs per person associated with diabetes increased from $8,417 to $9,601 (2017 dollars).

Deaths

  • In 2017, diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. This finding is based on 83,564 death certificates in which diabetes was listed as the underlying cause of death (crude rate, 25.7 per 100,000 persons). Now it is the 8th leading cause of death in America.
  • In 2017, there were 270,702 death certificates with diabetes listed as the underlying or contributing cause of death (crude rate, 83.1 per 100,000 persons).

THE REST OF THE JOURNEY

After I was told I was pre-diabetic I looked and found Macrobiotics. I met Lino Stanchich. He is longest living Macrobiotic counselor, an extraordinary nutritionist, and can go the long yard to keep one in healing mode. It was a small miracle and helped me in more than healing high blood sugar.  It helped with an imbalance with Candida, which contributed to overall healing of my body.

I MAINTAINED for 14-15 years from 2004-2019 to keep numbers blood sugar numbers 120-130 ish. Then I had some life stress, catastrophic events like a house fire, and a mother at ages 80 - 91 who then needed extra care & keeping a Biz. running. It was years of this extreme stress that took its toll. I tried to maintain, but sadly could not.

Then I got so disgusted with self, I pulled myself and habits up by the bootstraps and decided to lower my numbers!!! I went for some help at the Anne Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico. I learned to give body what it needs. It was a whole lifestyle program.  However there you do the program for 2-3 weeks and it sets in.

At times, you cannot think, act, move, or function properly. YOU WILL NEED HELP. It was uncomfortable to make more changes to life style eating habits. It seems it really is the habit not so much the food. I got numbers down to 90-100.

I then made a plan based on needs of he body. I use mostly Macrobiotics, and a bit of the Anne Wigmore’s program.  I maintained. Then fell back. Life stress!! Now ready to go full force.

Yes I have reversed Diabetes, more than once. Yes I went back to unhealthy habits, stress, work too much, exercise less and got older. Have not reversed that yet! Just when you need healthy habits, when at the worst in life, it is the easiest time to go back wards. Remember it’s never too late and change can be easy. It’s just what you want to make it: hard, med hard or easy. Just find a way!

You will hear from the traditional Medical profession that you cannot reverse Diabetes, or not get the severe complications. Then why has Blue Cross Blue Shield created a program Virta to help people to REVERSE DIABETIES??? The traditional Medical Profession is very mixed up on the subject. Please remember this when dealing with Dr.’s in general. They are human and as, like other humans, can be misguided.

I choose every day to substitute foods, carrots for chips, for example, and to remind self about choices. Like drinking water or liquids in between meals. Sometimes I cannot tell the difference between hungry or thirsty. Most importantly in making changes for life the body and self-esteem, go slow. If you miss, then get back on, forgive self.  Perhaps align with an accountable person or coach, then laugh, and go on. This is not a test where you are graded. This is a life where YOU can choose the outcome to LIVE-a BETIC LIFE.
