HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAY GREETINGS

"Holiday" is a word with origins from “whole," and "holy." However you celebrate, these are holy times when we may experience a heightened sense of our natural wholeness of body, mind, and spirit. Holiday traditions and rituals elevate our awareness and delight our senses. Holidays are magical times when families can strengthen their faith, tell stories, make memories, read and cook together, play music, dance, and give the best gift of all…love.

Holiday time and always, we deeply thank our:

Eating well increases our immunity, vitality, and joy of life. The special care and quality of macrobiotic foods and cooking can be utilized to create new versions of our favorite traditional holiday dishes. Our holiday meals can reflect harmony of ecology, balance, and wellness. Prepared with the care and love, our holiday feasts can preserve dear family traditions. Happy and Healthy Holidays to you and your loved ones.

WE HONOR A VARIETY OF
WINTER HOLIDAYS
6 2

HANUKKAH: The ancient Jewish “Festival of Lights” celebrating victory, hope, and tradition from December 10th to the 18th. Eight main candles, with one additional candle as a Shamas or lighter, are in the menorah, to signify the days and nights the oil lamp miraculously burned when the Jewish people, after war with the Maccabeen army, reclaimed their temple in Jerusalem. Prayers, family unity, singing, games, and feasts bring joy to those celebrating Hanukkah.

SOLSTICE: Nature’s Winter Season begins this year with a special alignment of Jupiter and Saturn with the Sun to form a huge star! Watch for this special celestial event on December 21.

CHRISTMAS: The December 25th holiday celebrates of the birth or “nativity”of Jesus Christ, the Lord of the Christian faith, beloved as the Son of God. Now Christmas, a word meaning “Christian Mass,” has traditions of church observances, feasting, gift-giving, caroling, St. Nicholas’ reindeer ride and his comical elves in the North Pole. Gifts to others are symbolic of the gifts of the Wise Men to Jesus in the humble birthplace of the Christian Messiah.

6 5KWANZA:  The seven day holiday created in 1966 to honor African culture, heritage, and harvest with celebrations of family, community, faith, work, creativity, unity, and self determination ~ seven values corresponding to seven core principles, symbolized with seven candles. From December 26th - January 1st, with a feast on the sixth day.

A DELICIOUS HOLIDAY
STEAMED CAKE RECIPE

HOLIDAY STEAMED ENGLISH PUDDING (CAKE)

© JANE Q. STANCHICH

Steamed Pudding is a classic English Victorian-Era dessert. (The British call desserts “puddings.”) This rich, moist cake is very delicious, especially in the winter with its warming spices. Healthy sweet, orange-colored vegetables are added, along with rich nuts and nutritious dried fruits. Steaming makes the cake very moist. It is fun to make and the whole family can take part in its preparation. You might want to sing, “Oh bring us some figgy pudding” from the olde carole! Jolly good! Let us know how yours comes out!
